Another vote for wood-bristle brushes - all the women/girls in my family are converts to Widu brushes, although I think they may be manufactured under a different name now.

My kids will only use Wet bruses

PS- its a detangling brush, fwiw. I bought it for my own kid who has tangly hair...but then I stole it from her!

Would she like nail stickers? They're easier to put on than try to paint polish on and then keeping a kid still while nails dry.

Great ideas! Nail stickers are probably a no go (hands in mouth too much), but I'm not sure I've ever put lip balm on her, and I bet she'd love it.

(She's only 3, so I'm still learning about her!)

Love these ideas! I think her "Santa gift" can be a whole salon set with a couple different brushes and maybe some lotions too.

So, keep the suggestions coming, and I'm happy to hear about anything that would be good in a salon kit! I'm waaaaaay outside my wheelhouse here.

The detangler style brushes often come in interesting shapes and feel nice on your scalp. My sensitive DD likes the Tangle Teezer brand.

My daughter has several Mason Pearson brushes and combs, but quite frankly, I don't notice any difference in the quality or manageability of her hair compared to other boar's bristle brushes that we've accumulated over the years. So unless you see one on sale, don't bother! I do recommend a nice, boar's bristle brush, as they distribute hair oil well and are more environmentally-friendly. Feel the bristles against your skin to test they're not too stiff. Pair it with a quality comb that doesn't have any ridges inside the teeth that could snag her hair. And if she's into styling, you can buy her a child's book on styling hair, with a few hair products: Credo is an excellent website that was recommended to me on DCUM. It sells non-toxic beauty products.

Thanks! If she weren’t especially vulnerable to Covid and unable to keep her mask on, I would totally take her to a salon! Trying to replicate that at home with zero skills of my own!!

My favorite spot for hair brushes is Ulta Beauty -- I think they have the best selection and I prefer to go in person so I can really look at the brushes and pick them up. I have a profoundly disabled kid--can't walk, talk, or use her hands functionally. Buying Christmas gifts for her is tough, to say the least. She does love having her hair brushed, though, and I'm not especially beauty/fashion inclined, so I just have a regular, cheap hair brush from CVS. Are there hair brushes that would feel really good? Be fancy in any way that a kid might appreciate? Should I just go to a salon and pick something, or does anyone have a brand to recommend?
