I agree with this. I wish FCPS would put together an ASD-only HS program. My daughter with ASD was horribly bullied and tormented at Burke for middle because the other kids had VERY different challenges.

You generally need to be 17 years old to attend MVHS, but there is another program on the campus that takes 9th and 10th grade students.

Mt. View has very little special education support. If she only needs smaller classes and more flexibility, maybe it would work. But if she requires any type of SpEd support, it's not the right fit. Special education is only on a consult basis.

Agree that you will get better responses in the Special Needs forum. Mountain View is usually not a traditional placement for a kid who needs significant ED support…more for students who need non-traditional schooling. Are they at Burke now? I would think Cedar Lane or Quander Road is more what you’d be looking for.

Unless your kid needed what the school offers. There but for the grace of God go you and your kid. Plus, I know a former assistant principal at Mountain View. She is top notch. FCPS must be doing something right at MV if they placed her there. OP I'm not sure if the school's offerings will match your child's needs. Hopefully you can get answers to your questions. The Special Needs forum sometimes has more info than you can get in the FCPS forum.

Not really sure how this is a helpful post to an OP whose kid has an iep for ASD/ED.

It’s not for kids with behavioral problems so much as teen parents, kids who have missed years of school due to immigration or illness, etc. I’m not sure if they would have any more special ed support then one of the regular public high schools.

It's not "severe behavioral problems" so much as interrupted schooling due to pregnancy, work/family situations, academic challenges, etc.

You might want to post in the Special Needs forum. My understanding is that Mountain View is more for kids who have been kicked out of other schools for violent behavior or other reasons. I have no clue what type of supports that it has for SPED students.

Does anyone know what kind of students attend? We are trying to find a good fit for my dc who has an iep for ASD/ED. Are the class sizes small? Do they have special ed support? Any info would be helpful.
