What I did: bought 4" worth of mattress topper from sleeponlatex.com and put it on top of an existing firm mattress. Easy to try the latex experience without paying for a full mattress-worth, and easy to move. The topper has been so great that I haven't moved to an entirely latex mattress, but that would be my next move.
Latex is the way to go! My full latex mattress, while pricey, is something that I am grateful for every single day--best purchase ever! I'm 61 and always a bit stiff--I feel none of the stiffness as soon as I lie on my bed. Are you in the DC area? If so, I can give you more info about where I bought my mattress and what the exact model name is.
I'm the PP with the latex topper (56 and same experience!) and I'd love to know the local details of your mattress, PP, since I'm going to be doing some bed-shuffling soon and will be ready to go full latex. Plus I always like to be able to recommend to others where they can try one in person. Thanks!
