I'm looking for healthy eating ideas. I'm obese and looking to lose weight with a lifestyle change so these recipes are things I hope to incorporate into my everyday life.
Also, I'm on multiple psychiatric medications that are known to cause significant weight gain, so this is an uphill battle. One medication works by stimulating the hunger area in the brain, so this may be impossible, but I'm hoping to incorporate tasty, healthy recipes that I'll want to eat.
I'll start:
My favorite is spinach salad with feta, cranberries, red onion, and an orange juice and olive oil vinaigrette. Chopped nuts are good on it, too.
OP, sorry to tell you but that salad is not going to help with weight loss. Feta, nuts, dried cranberries (tons of added sugar) are all calorie dense items that turn a heathy salad into a high calorie meal. The orange juice vinaigrette likely has a lot of sugar in it too. As a general rule, pick nuts and cheese to add over dried fruit- but not both. Pick one. And make your own dressing. I think an OJ based one can be fine if you make it yourself and don’t add additional sugar.
Not op, but I disagree. She can have both nuts and cheese as long as the portion size is moderated. Having something dry and crunchy and something else creamy can really make a salad and keep me much more satiated and less likely to want to add on a grilled cheese or something. I'd also mix in some kale or cabbage.
