I'm sure it's a very old-fashioned attempt at keeping a clean-cut look and reputation for the students and the school. It really doesn't work, though.

As a PP said, privates can have whatever rules they want. No one is requiring you to send a boy to a school with such a rule.

Very disappointed that private schools would have this rule. Never occurred to me that a mustache or beard would be a problem.
(and yes, men in our family often can grow a nice looking beard at 17)

Episcopal High School requires boys to shave, but you can get a “beard exemption.” I think it usually requires a medical reason (ingrown hairs, etc)

My sons Catholic school has a no facial hair rule but you can get a note from a dermatologist if it’s an issue.

Our boys are young so I'm sorry is this is a silly question. Is facial hair "banned" by any private high schools?
