Perhaps talk about that with your wife first. Cubic zirconium is just as pretty and doesn't come with the guilt, plus you can then get an extra gift

Don’t buy diamond earrings. Cubic zirconium earrings look exactly the same and cost much less to replace when you inevitably lose one.

All of the diamonds I have from Costco are amazing quality, much cheaper than the competition, and appraised for much higher than the purchase price.

Consider lab diamonds. Read about it.
