Same. It is only 40 hours from one side to the other. If you don't want to drive then you can take Amtrak. It adds on some time but you can work while you're on the train.

If I could afford it, could take the time off work, and thought it would be fun, YES, but without the family. Sounds like a blast, actually. But only without kids, traveling that far with kids twice is a hassle, and my kids love to travel. It’s just so much more to manage. But just me? Hell, yeah. I love alone plane time with no obligations.
It’s hard to know your hesitation - work, family obligations? Financial? Don’t like to travel, etc?

Probably yes. Especially if you’re a close family. Engagement parties can be a big deal. And particularly most of my socialization has been with 2 small kids for the last 2 years due to CoVID, I particularly appreciate that these family occasions are meaningful and I’m glad that people are able to have them again.

Good grief, no. I wouldn't even do that for a funeral (they're dead--you're too late!) Possibly for a wedding, but that would have to be someone I'm very close to--not some third cousin twice removed or a college roommate I haven't actually talked to since college. But engagement party--not a chance, I wouldn't even do that if the other trip weren't planned.

Ditto. These are the type of people who have the engagement party, multiple bridal showers, bachelorette parties in adorable locations, the stag party of course, and a five-day wedding. And when they get pregnant, much will be made over the babymoon, multiple baby showers, a gender reveal party, a sip-and-see and of course an elaborate christening party. And want presents for all their exhausting events.

We are going with out entire family + kids to spend holidays with family on the west coast for 3 weeks. (Every day of kids winter break from school + 2 days) and younger sibling (in law) is having an engagement party 1.5 weeks before. Would you travel for it?
