My daughter is a junior Nursing major at Xavier and loves it!!!! There is so much school spirit and many many fun activities and Cincy is great. She has made tons of friends and the people are so nice. Xavier does an excellent job in accomplishing the Jesuit mission. Jesuit education is known for its personalized attention and concern for the whole person — mind, body and spirit. They not only develop you as a student competent in your area of study, but ensure you are strong in character and conviction as well. We are catholic and picked this school for this reason. The Xavier School of Nursing is top-notch and the facility is brand new with the latest in technology. Most of the students my daughter knows are from the mid-west but about 35 % are from the East or the South. It has been a really GREAT college experience for her and the enthusiasm for her school is so fun to watch. I would encourage everyone to check it out.

Cincinnati is a great city, it has really developed a lot recently. For those wanting to go to college in the midwest, the area is worth looking at.

My DC looked at both. XU has a great business school and internship programs. It is definitely not a commuter school at this time and there are many east Coast kids there. The kids we know who have gone there have loved it. It has the same Jesuit priorities other Jesuit colleges do - service, education of the whole person, all things for the greater glory of God, etc. The campus is beautiful but somewhat insular and not walkable to much. Cincinnati is a great town though with lots to do and quite a few other colleges.

Dayton is about twice the size, maybe slightly less academically prestigious, depending on the program. The city of Dayton has seen better days, but the area around campus is nice and has restaurants, bars. The single family student housing around the campus is a unique feature that lends itself to parties, but also a vibrant social life that is a big draw.

My neighbor transferred out after 1 semester. He said the focus of most students was partying. He also did not like the location in terms of access to the city.

More than half of Xavier students (56 percent) are from out of state. It also has a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. It's a solid academic institution with a good amount of diversity and these posters are ridiculous and wrong.

I wrote the post and I am from Cincy as I said one of my siblings went there and I took a few grad classes there before going to law school. It is what it is. You can protest all you want, but you obviously are not from Cincy nor did you go to XU.

You don't have to be from Cincy to know that a school that is less than half in state students isn't a commuter school. You're just plain wrong.

Know a young woman who graduated from Xavier recently and had a good-paying job in her field upon graduation. Strong Jesuit ethics and strong alumni. If your child doesn't mind a smaller city. Cincinnati is a good option. Oh and basketball team makes winters fun!

When were your perceptions formed?

We visited over the summer and son is applying.

I believe the student body is more than half from out of state - it doesn't sound like a commuter place to me. Popular with Chicago crowd and growing in popularity in East.

Lots of school spirit around basketball.

Very impressed with all of the student support: free tutoring, career coach, peer mentor, success coach - I lost track of all the different helpers.

Campus is not downtown. We enjoyed downtown Cincinnati. I think the city has more to offer than Dayton.

Hi. DC just applied to Xavier but don’t know much about it except that it’s very small and seems to be a lot of local kids. The basketball team seems renowned so I guess there is pretty good school spirit there. DC is also interested in Dayton which is bigger and def more of a party school. How would you describe Xavier from experience or knowledge especially in relation to Dayton?
