American Eagle has a nice selection of pants for tall, slim boys (28x34 and 30x36). Good luck.

My son is similar-- 5'10, very long legs, and about 115 pounds. For pants/jeans American Eagle (online shipping) has a 28 x 34, Old Navy and Land's End also have pants in this size. JCrew and many others carry a 28 x 32 (once you hit the 34 length with a small waist only a few major brands carry that size)

For athletic pants, DS wears a men's small which seems to be okay but not great. He wears Champion and Adidas.

Is this your own son? He needs to try them on. I only buy things I can return easily. They vary so much. My son is about 5’5” and he recently needed real pants. I finally found a pair of size 20 online that worked but that was after many attempts. His athletic bottoms are mostly men’s smalls. As for tops, he’s wearing mostly men’s mediums. I know you didn’t ask about tops but I wanted to show how the sizes vary so much by brand and style. His latest athletic pants are Amazon Essential brand and some random pair I picked up at Costco. .

American Eagle, my son has 6-7 pairs of these joggers in men’s XS. When I bought them he was your son’s height, but a bit lighter, he’s now 5’9” and your son’s weight. They still fit well, but if I was replacing them, I might try Small for a little more length.

He’s branching into jeans, they have a good selection there, he wears 28*32.

He also can wear Old Navy men’s small in some pants.

Nike golf pants. Also Bonobos has nice slim and tall pants.

My son is similarly tall and skinny—he has a 28” waist and a 34” inseam. He wears a lot of joggers and hoodies (so, yes, Dick’s) and we found some jeans at Abercrombie & Fitch with 28” waist. He mostly wears a men’s small on top. Men’s xs is really hard to find.

My son likes some of the slim fit cargo type pants from Kohl’s. (And is also quite slim, though tall). I think you have to go try stuff on and let him look. Even if you end up ordering online, go to the store and try on.
My son HATES to shop, but he understands now that 1 hour spent trying stuff on once or twice a year means he ends up with clothes that he actually likes and that fit him.

Old Navy and Uniqlo also have some slim fit sweats and other pants. I would move toward men’s sizes — the XS and S sizes are likely to be slimmer than the boys XXLs.

My DS had to wear a jacket and tie uniform, but we found J Crew mens XS slim fit perfectly when he was your son's size.

When you get to mens' sizes it is all about the length and more important, the cut: "traditional" or "comfort" cuts for your huskier boys, "tailored" or "slim" for really skinny guys, and "athletic cut for guys with trim waists but muscular shoulders and thighs.

For athletic wear, you just need to find the brand and style that works by trying them on - they vary so much even in the same size. You can find those Adidas pants on Amazon.

Go to Dicks. My skinny boy (6'1, 130 lbs) found some slim sweatpants there that I think are from Adidas. He loves them. They have drawstrings, so they stay up.

You may also have luck at American Eagle.

Definitely try the smaller men's sizes. If there's a drawstring, the waist won't be as much of an issue.

Struggling with what size to get for a kid that is about 5'6 or 5'7, about 130-135 pounds. Boys size XXL 18-20? Mens size small? or men's extra small?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for specific brands of pants, please bring them on. Last year he did a lot of the Adidas boys athletic pants from Costco, but they don't have them this year. I bought some men's jogging pants for Target, but they seem to show too much outline of what's under the pants to be appropriate for school. He hate jeans.
