Country club for middle class

They gave me decent scholarship for college. I competed at the local level for the lodge scholarship which qualifies you to try for a national scholarship, which I also won. My dad has been a member for 50+ years. Growing up they had charitable events, spaghetti dinners to raise money for various causes, an Easter egg hunt for the community. The one my dad belongs to has a restaurant and bar for members where they can bring guests and the food is cheap and plentiful. In my dad’s area it was mostly blue collar men. A number of years ago they began allowing women to join, but I’ve been gone long enough that I don’t know how that’s changed it. My parents often go (pre Covid) for a Friday or Saturday night dinner.

Definitely. Our neighbors (young Boomers) are members. We joined them one year for what was promised to be a fun St Patrick’s. Nothing but creepy old men and floozy old women trying to impress the men, or drunks. We felt so out of place and definitely saw our neighbors in a whole new light.

My parents joined their local. It's not just men. They do a lot of charity work and sometimes drink as they do that charity work. Perfect mix for my retired parents.

They often have fun Bingo games.

These organizations are usually philanthropic. Raising money for local causes, volunteering etc.

Where I live, it's mostly a philanthropy group. It also gives the elderly a place to socialize.

When the Isaac Walton League dissolved for lack of spendable moola the progenitors, being clubby fellows, cast about for what else they could do.

Being horny as well as aged, they asked themselves which critter best symbolized their raging hormones. They decided on the name Elks, since a mature male elk has some of the best antlers around.

Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks or among the initiated, the Best People on Earth.

My parents belong to one so they can use the gym. Otherwise they don’t really hang out there.
