A driver who was turning right from Biltmore St NW onto Columbia Rd NW, at 3:30 pm on a Saturday, struck and killed a 24-year-old woman who was crossing Columbia Rd NW. And you want to talk about whether the driver was at fault? Really?

You don't actually know who was at fault. It's impossible to tell from the media accounts. Don't pretend you know what happened because you don't.

The problem here is the mayor. The Council passed legislation and the mayor refused to implement it. Because like many things, the mayor is totally incompetent.

I'd rather have streets that are designed to be safe. That way, we wouldn't need cops on the streets enforcing traffic laws.

But the cops are too worried about the flagged driver having a gun or being belligerent or not stopping at all.

Traffic stops have become too dangerous for police to pursue - both personally and politically.

Drivers have killed crossing guards in broad daylight. The woman killed on Sunday was killed in broad daylight. If you want to wear a reflective vest, that's fine, but reflective vests don't make pedestrians safe.

The intersection where this happened is a bad spot for pedestrians. I think a raised crosswalk there would really help.

Would be helpful if cops sometimes enforced traffic laws. They seem to think that's beneath them.

I mean there are plenty DC residents who are terrible drivers, too- not just MD and VA drivers. It makes me sick.

Our roads are not set up for safety. At all. And there is zero enforcement. I’ve lived in DC for 25 years and seen cars pulled over for moving violations exactly twice, no joke.

Another weekend, another pedestrian killed by a reckless driver. This time a 24yo girl walking to work in Adams Morgan. What is being done about our safety in walkable neighborhoods? I am so sick of these terrible drivers coming in from the burbs.
