Within a day or two. But honestly, the best judge is your nose. If the fish smells really fishy, then it's past it's prime. Fresh fish should have little to no smell.

This is not true. Nearly all fish sold as fresh was not previously frozen. Some was but it is or should be labeled as "previously frozen".

I usually cook fish on Sunday when I food shop for this reason but would let it go to Monday. No specific facts to back this notion up.

I would try not to but it is probably fine. FYI, your fresh fish has like already been frozen once and thawed. Unless you are buying dockside nearly all fish is frozen. It is actually better to buy it when it is still frozen. As “fresh” you have no idea when it was thawed in the store

I typically will only buy and cook fish same day but it is limiting amount of fish that I eat. I also don’t particularly like to buy frozen fish. So, can you buy fish on a Friday and cook it Sunday? I mean you can, but would you?
