We are wondering if next year will be better or worse. Just hoping our old car hangs on.

In other parts of the country, there are no cars to be found. I live in Tennessee and wanted a RAV4 Hybrid and there were literally zero when I was looking in August and September. Knoxville, Nashville, Atlanta, none.

I ended up going to the DMV to buy my car and I paid MSRP. I'm just thankful I didn't have to pay over.

How about others parts of the country?

Not true. Many makes/models are still selling under MSRP. Not as much under as before, but still. Acura is offering $750-$1000 off MSRP for loyalty/conquest rebate. You can stack and have the full $1750 off if you have both (say you have a Honda (conquest) and Acura (loyalty).) My sibling just bought a Traverse for a couple thousand off.

Depends on the car you want and how much you shop around. We just bought a 2021 brand new Subaru for $2-3k under MSRP. Some dealers wanted thousands over MSRP for exactly the same car.

Maybe but the market will drop out with no warning and the 10 cars you own in inventory will all of a sudden be worth half.

I really think it depends on the car and price point. I think the more expensive cars tend to sit, so you are likely to get something off of MSRP. We bought a Audi Q7 at the end of July and got a couple thousand off of MSRP. This is after one dealer wanted to add a $13k global chip shortage fee.

Or they'll just raise the MSRP, would that make you feel better?

I bought a car in May and got a discount off the MSRP. But since the 2022s came out, the MSRP is higher than it was on the 2021s plus the dealer list price is always "call" on future inventory.

Also they sold my trade-in within days. I should have held out for more on that.

It will be more "normal" next year when MSRP is $75k

We were just offered a car that costs 10k more than MSRP (adjustment went from 60.000 to 70.000). I was already skeptical if we should buy a new car or not. This made me walk away. I wonder when will the market be more normal…
