Subject: Which K-8 has the best high school placement?
I think they all do a good job. It used to be that certain K through eights were deflacto feeders to the other privates but I think that has changed quite a bit. Sheridan for instance used to send about half its class to GDS But now I think the range has become much more diverse

We are not sure what will be best for HS, that is why we are looking at k-8. Thinking our child will have a say once looking at HS. Is there a thought if which K-8 prepares the kids best for whatever HS they choose??

How does the Lowell school in DC and the Barrie school on MD compare with Sheridan and Norwood? (In terms of being admitted to Sidwell, GDS, and Norwood)
We would prefer to send child to those High School over the Cathedral ones.

For Cathedral Schools, St. Pats would likely have the best outplacement.
For GDS, Maret, Sidwell. I'd give the edge to Sheridan, though Norwood is also strong.
For Potomac, Norwood is probably the strongest.

They are great schools and really put all of their resources into the k-8 grades, whereas k-12 tend to put a disproportionate amount into high school. GDS does have a new lower/moiddle school building. OP, where do you want to end up? That could help guide which k-8 might be best.

That is a matter of opinion! Norwood was certainly a great school for my three kids. And way better IMO than GDS high school which one kid went to and graduated from

NPS ends at 6th which I think is somewhat of an advantage because most don’t end at 6th. They have great outplacement.

For 9th grade admissions your kid will have a big say in where they go versus when they’re in K. Academically, personality, distance, extracurricular.

You should just start as early as possible at these schools if that’s your goal. 9th grade placement is very difficult. Much easier getting in early.

Agree with this. They're all about the same. I have a kid in 9th at STA. There is one kid who came from St. Pats, one from Sheridan, one from WES. The Big3 schools are all like this--they like a mix of feeder schools: public, private, parochial.

Those are all good schools. Placement will depend a lot more on you are your specific kid than which of these schools you choose. We like the K-8 model. Looking at St.Patrick’s, Norwood, Sheridan. We are wondering if one is best for high school placement or preparedness?
