The thing with schools is that even though individual neighborhoods are very different in feel depending on housing value, the schools are very homogenized. You can live in a $700,000 house, but be zoned for a school four miles away that draws students from trailer parks, apartments and ancient rental stock. People used to zoning in other counties don’t seem to like this 🧐

Are there housing communities in northern Virginia without garages or driveways where cars aren’t getting sideswiped? Or areas of high density housing where people aren’t getting broken into? These things aren’t really an issue here in single-family home neighborhoods.

Wow, they rezoned Westridge again! It used to go to Gar-Field when I was in high school, then Osborne Park in Manassas and now back to Woodbridge. Interesting.
It's a nice community and snobby as hell when I grew up there in the 1990's fwiw.

There are so many nice homes in little enclaves throughout Woodbridge that are just 1/4 to 1/2 mile from so-called bad areas. You have to hope that your little piece of paradise isn't chosen for car thefts that weekend. Or, more likely, that your neighbors don't let their nephew stay with them to give him a solid chance at turning himself around and, next thing you know, he and his buddies are selling drugs out of your manicured cul-de-sac.

I mean your three cons are pretty bad. Bad schools, bad crime, bad traffic.
I only know specific stories from my coworker, but they’re pretty bad. She’s always getting robbed. Her car gets broken into multiple times a year, usually gets sideswiped in the winter (they don’t have garages or driveways) and then she has had her house robbed twice since I’ve known her.

I’m a mythical Woodbridge DCUM lurker. There are three thing wrong with Woodbridge. One, the schools have no cachet. Two, if you live in a townhome community and leave your car door unlocked, it will be rifled through at 3 AM. And three, there are only three ways over the river and the traffic on every one is hideous.
