Here's the difference: they're kids and you are an adult. Doing these recs is an important part of your JOB. NP. This was already stated by others upthread, but the deadline hasn't even happened yet. Complaining about something not done when it isn't even due yet is not reasonable.

Please take a breath, it will be fine, the recs will be submitted on, or slightly after, the student's app deadline.

At our school, the teacher recs goes through Naviance (students request it through there and can check the status)...my DC asked their teachers in person (last year) but then submitted the "formal" request in Naviance this year. One teacher has submitted it (according to Naviance)...for the other, the status is still "requested." DC has checked in with the teacher over the past few weeks but it is nerve wracking for sure.

I am sorry those kids didn’t give you adequate info. My son gave his teachers materials at the end of the school year and checked in at the beginning of the school year and again a few weeks ago just to make sure they didn’t need anything else. Still neither have submitted them.

As others have said, there's a grace period for the parts due from the school. Some of the college websites specify how long. One of DC's schools specifically said "applications are due 11/1 and all portions of the application are due 11/8" for example.

OP, neither of my son’s recommendations are in!

By coincidence ran into my child’s counselor on Tuesday and she told us she was going to spend all day Friday sending in materials for kids. My friend who is a guidance counselor told me Wednesday she had one more letter of recommendation to do for one of her kids and then same thing - uploading and sending materials.

This is nothing to stress about and teacher letters do not have to be there by the 1st. I am a veteran teacher. The colleges understand and are patient. They will begin review of your child's file.

On a thread in the Paying For College Facebook group, a teacher made the comment that until she joined that group as a parent, it never occurred to her to do her letters ahead of time, as she would never expect her students to turn in work ahead of time. I found that an interesting tidbit as we were dealing with a teacher gone MIA for 6 weeks, but then the letter appeared in Common App last week.

My kid has the counselor rec and 1 teacher rec in. 1 teacher rec outstanding. I know the teacher will get it in though. She’s done prior recs for DD.

Our school sent out an email saying 11/1 was a hard deadline for kids but not the school. The school would be notified about missing pieces on Monday and these would be submitted promptly.

Older kid went to TJ and same advice. 11/1 was non-negotiable for students. It would not be held against students if the teacher rec was a day or two late.

It sounds like counselors get a list of teachers who haven’t completed recs and hound them.

Last year, my kid had several November 1 deadlines. Both letters ultimately showed as being uploaded on the 2nd and everything was just fine.

Please tell me that others are facing this...one of the teacher's LOC hasn't been completed yet. Yes, I know they have until November 1st...Yes, I know they are slammed (and I love and appreciate all the teachers out there)---it's normal for them to have to do a ton the last weekend, right?
