I would definitely do summer vs winter break if you are going to try and make it up

My son took a history class this summer through our local community college, so that his course load would be less this semester, as he has his first demanding class in his major. The summer class was compressed over about a four week period, and asynchronous. The description said to expect to put in about 9 hours a week, but it was much less than that. He was happy that he did it and plans to take another one next summer. He was able to provide the course description to his college and get approval in advance. He could have taken the class online through his college, but the cost at the community college was so much less.

Check with her college. Some colleges accept courses from anywhere, and others are quite restrictive about what they will award credit for. My daughter’s requires preapproval with a syllabus review process.

This is how NVCC is. There is no winter break term. I think all fall classes end around 12/8 and the next semester begins around 1/8 for the earliest classes.

Sure! or her own college may offer something online. Or take a class over a summer. She could combine that with working a job.

Sounds like she could really use that one month break.

I think summer courses are more common.

Some schools even have fun sounding trips over breaks, that grant credits because they are also academic in focus. They are pricey though.

I also know of an Ivy student who wanted to take a foreign language during the summer for credit at his Ivy. He went to another college for an immersion program, then had to test out, and was successful in meeting that particular college's language requirement which allowed him, in part, to graduate early.

My daughter was overwhelmed with taking a full load this first semester so dropped a course to keep her scholarship. But now she’s going to be behind if she doesn’t make it up. Someone suggested she take a course at our local community college over the 4 weeks she’s home from college. Has anyone here done this? Seems like a much less expensive way of getting classes out of the way.
