Yes, you encountered a very dangerous situation where it was very likely someone could have gotten injured.

Or worse.
Even died.

Calling 9-1-1 in a situation such as this would have been a wise idea.

Calling the police might end up with one of them getting shot. And speeding isn’t a death penalty offense. So just check your privilege and get back to minding yourself own business.

We should all call 911 for this, but if you don't have an easy hands-free set-up in your car (I don't), you were right to prioritize your safety!

That has nothing to do with the movement to defund police departments. It’s how they have their call center set up. Citizens should not be calling police directly in a large city, but should go through a call center.

This happened to us on 95. My husband was driving. I looked up the non emergency line for the state police and called. They said something to me that made me think they had already had another call. But I never saw any police vehicles. I think it’s really hard to catch them. I think they drive for a few miles and then exit. But very scary.

I live in LA in the valley where street racing pretty much happened every weekend during pandemic. You can get through to dispatch (yayyyy defund police people!!) so I would call 911 every weekend. They’d thank me and literally 3-5 mins after I called, you’d heard the lapd sirens. The street racing stopped 5 months ago, and I really think it’s because people like me called the police so many times they have to move somewhere else.

Drunk driving is one of the few things I would call for and I would treat this the same.

I was driving on the inner loop of the beltway this morning, from Tysons to Rockville, and encountered what must have been some sort of ‘street race’. High end cars going very very fast and driving very very dangerously— flying back and forth across multiple lanes of traffic at very high speeds, driving on the shoulders, etc. there must have been 12-15 cars that I encountered. I was petrified, and I don’t scare easily. I considered calling 911, but wasn’t sure this qualified as an emergency, so didn’t. Also, I was driving, and while you might say I should have pulled over I didn’t because the cars were weaving across lanes and I thought it best to stay where I was.
Would you have called 911? Is there some other number to call or a situation like this?
