yeah, anyone can apply but don't think montgomery county has anything close to the level of play to be competitive in ECNL. Sure, some good teams here and there, a few OK clubs but not anyone that can compete in ECNL.

Bethesda is already pulling in 85% of the best players locally and has been for 30 years.

You can find the team application on the ECNL website. The application asks for things like how many travel teams, how many rec teams, size of player pool, team records and accomplishments. Need to field teams in every age group u13 and up. They ask whether the club owns or rents fields, need access to fields with artificial turf and lights. They ask for notable former players who have been with the club - national team players, professionals - as evidence of player development. They want to know how many full time vs part time coaches and their level of qualifications.

Only one requirement for ECNL: can’t be FCV

I think many of the clubs are not that great and the coaching “up here” is not as focused on developing that level of play, but the players can be just as good. For example, I remember my DD at age 7 playing a VA travel team. SYC I think. While our girls had a couple of fun hours a week to practice, the VA girls had already been together for 2 years or more, practiced 3x per week for at least an hour, and cut players each year. That is not a question of talent. It is a question of environment and attitude toward soccer. For whatever reason, BCS is the only club that is that focused at an early age.

I believe it works the other way around. Although a club may want to join, ultimately ecnl has to allow them to join. Therefore GA may be the clubs only option .
