Ours has always had their own room, but started sleeping in their own more often around kindergarten. We’re 50/50 now at 1st. We let them start in our room and move to theirs when we go to bed. Sometimes they won’t transfer easily or use a floor bed. They’re still really young and are an only. There are more independent nights in their room as they get older. I’m ok with it at this point. I’m sure we’ll miss the snuggles in time.

They get put in their bed some time in the night.

My 2 year old wakes at 6am and if I cuddle with her in the spare bed in her room she goes back to sleep for another hour, so I do that as often as possible. But neither she nor the 6 year old come into our bed, ever.

I wouldn’t start this w a 2 yo. My first child we cosmetology a few times first year during rough sleep patches. Second child we coslept a lot til basically 2 - he was a bad sleeper. I only do it for survival. Toddlers can be really wiggly and not actually sleep or let you sleep.

Me never. If my spouse is out of town I let my now 9yo sleep in our bed. It’s maybe once a year. But it’s for one night maybe once a year. I have a friend who became single about two years ago and started letting her two kids sleep with her. They are now 6 and 8. Well now she has a boyfriend and it’s a problem….. her kids won’t go to sleep without her…. And they’re in her bed still.

My six year old gets in bed with us most nights - usually between 3 and 4.

One of my kids would come looking for me after a bad dream, etc. He moved all over the bed and would ruin my sleep. The compromise was to grab his pillow and blanket and sleep on the floor.

Less than a handful of times with both kids. 5 and 2. They sleep well on their own but with me they will toss and play etc and not sleep. So we dont. I have fallen asleep in my big kids bed when she was sick. And i have brought the toddler in if she woke up middle of the night and scared and snuggled/nursed her back to sleep with me but its rare.

Never, except on a rare occasion when we travel (before covid). A few times our child expressed an interest and we always said no. When they are sick, we'd go into their bed.

Out of curiosity, how often do you let your kid (what age are they?) co sleep with you? My DD is 2 and has never co-slept with me except for vacations. She LOVES her crib and bedtime is very easy, but tonight she woke up and expressed for the first time she wanted to sleep in my bed. I gently told her no. I can see doing this for when a kid is really sick or something, but I’m worried it’s a slippery slope otherwise. How often is it ok as a treat without screwing up their normal sleep routine?
