I wouldn't waste my time in Oahu unless you had a specific reason for being there. Go to Maui or Kauai.

That’s strange. Our kids like being with us and don’t want their own room. We all sleep really well and enjoy the time together. We regularly stay in 2 queen rooms and it’s never been an issue. Why don’t you want to share room with your children? (Not OP.)

Agree that location is most important. We stayed at HHV in Aug with 4 in the room and a roll away. The room was fine but the resort was crazy busy. Long waits for elevators, long waits for food, towels, no pool chairs, etc. We went to Kauai after and it was so much better!

I'd rather go longer and just get one room but we have no issues sharing and make it work.

What do you want more -- the extra space, or the more luxurious pool?

There's a lot to be said for that Embassy Suites. It is on *top* of Fort Derussy park, which is my favorite Oahu beach because it has the shady park right there (so you can sit under a tree rather than right out in the sun). It's also closer in to the main Waikiki drag if you want to hit Dukes or the Pink Palace bar, or the main Waikiki beach. You can step out easily to grab a bite from an ABC store or to get a coffee (where as with the resort you have to walk further or pay the resort prices).

But if what you really want from your vacation is to chill out at the lovely resort pool, then you won't get that.

+1. We have similar aged girls and always choose ES if we don’t need to sacrifice on location or it doesn’t matter. But we’ve recently started taking standard hotels for better location and no regrets.

We are an East coast family and because of the time difference we crash surly and are up early so a room is important to us. OP, I'd go with ES since you can close the bedroom door and put kids on sleeper sofa and they have thwir own TV and you and DH have your own. Rooms Trump grounds to me. Plus you can walk over to HHV if you really want to be on the grounds.

We actually got adjoining rooms at HHV but would have been ok in 1 room.

HHV grounds are fantastic. I would not opt for a bigger room over that.

No hotel will kids stay in their own room anyway. Maybe you could get a Jr sweet, 1bredroom with living room or adjoining rooms some where? If everyone gets along maybe spend the money on some outings?

Family of 4 with 13 and 11 yr old girls. Would you do Hilton Hawaiian Village or Embassy Suites if you can only afford 1 room. For space we think ES but for grounds and overall enjoyment we think HHV. Is there a place we could get a resort feel like HHV but space too? We can't afford 2 rooms.
