As I read it, OP asked some open-ended questions about how people did this. Although she did ask about just paying their share on the 5th day she was open to hearing other options and suggestions. People are being unnecessarily harsh IMO. It’s a reasonable question. If each family is paying $15/hr you MIGHT find a nanny willing to work for $18 or something like that on the 5th day if there were enough other perks!

You will not find a good nanny willing to do this, OP. Like daycare, the other family has to pay for all five days.

This family is already being cheap and a pain. Maybe it's unintentional on their part, but either way, just run away and find another childcare arrangement.

Honestly, I wouldn't go into a nanny share with this family. Find a nanny share with another family that needs the same days as you so there are no issues and it can be split easily and logistics are easy.

You’ll have to pay the nanny her full rate the fifth day. MAYBE you might find a nanny willing to take a few bucks less that day but certainly not half. For example, in our share, we each pay $12 per hour, nanny makes $24 per hour. $12 isn’t even minimum wage in the district! Maybe you could get away with like $20-22 per hour the fifth day, but I doubt it.

In all honestly, I think the four day a week family needs to pay full freight for the fifth day. Part time childcare is impossible to find for exactly this reason - it doesn’t line up with what most people need.

Also - watch your overtime hours. If you guys need the nanny, say, 8am-5pm, 5 days a week, that’s 45 hours, which means 5 hours need to be paid at time-and-a-half, and the other family might balk at that since they don’t need 45 hours.

There should be an agreed upon single family and nanny share rate. The single family rate will not be half of the nanny share rate. Usually a single child is $20-25hr and a nanny share is $25-30hr.

It goes get tricky if the 5 day family's hours put the nanny in to overtime each week.

You pay her whatever the single child rate is not 10-12$ that you’re paying in a share or bite the bullet and pay for 5 days collectively. Personally I wouldn’t take such a position.
