No she can’t. She can’t admit the Covid vaccine is a good thing because then she would have to admit she is dumb for not getting it. You won’t win this with someone like that.

You won't be in a classroom with unvaccinated kids. That's good. Your sister and two friends were not nice to you. That sucks. You are safe, though, so you ought to let it go.

This has become another shibboleth like abortion where you can’t change anyone’s minds.

It was a harsh, insensitive remark and absolutely would have stung me, too but this particular debate tends to get very heated.

I am in the process of becoming a credentialed teacher for the state of California, and I currently student teach for LAUSD.. Children 12 and older are required to be vaccinated by January. At dinner last night with my younger sister, her best friend and my friend, they all revealed they believe children should not be forced to be vaccinated. That it’s a parent choice. I said as an educator, I am glad the district made that choice. I said I didn’t want to get COVID because some parent doesn’t want to vaccinate their child. She said well you should pick another profession. And I don’t know why but that made me really upset. I’ve known her for 10+ years and I completely respect her choices but when it affects many people…anyway am I being over sensitive? To me she basically said screw your health, my freedom of choice to vaccinate my kid trumps your job so go find a new one…additionally she said she hopes to get an exemption for her child and if she doesn’t then she’ll pull him out of school. And I said well same goes for you. You don’t want to get him vaccinated we’ll choose another form of school for him.
