Subject: Maryland drivers test in pandemic times
- Pull into a parking spot
- Reverse into a parking spot
- 3 point turn
That's it.
* must use turn signals on everything or you fail
** must do headchecks for everything or you fail
*** can't use backup camera unless you are fully in the spot and are just adjusting
**** must stop at stop sign (it seems obvious but lots of kids forget = automatic fail)

No one cares what you did in the 80’s. It’s now 2021 and the test has changed.

My son took the test 3 years ago and there was a portion on an actual road.

Yup. Closed course (which isn't something new -- it was standard when I took my MD's drivers test in the early 80s), but with instructor standing outside the car giving instructions.

What do the yellow zig zaggy shapes on the front and rear bumpers of the car in the diagram mean?
On page three, they switch from the passenger's side to the driver's side which confuses me.

MDOT MVA will be temporarily modifying the non-commercial driving skills test in consideration of the safety of our customers and employees. Applicants will be tested on the following maneuvers: vehicle inspection, pull-in parking, three-point turn and back-in parking. These maneuvers fulfill all safety requirements. They have to demonstrate turn signals but the written quiz is for learners permit. They also have to cone a complete stop and follow directions fwiw.

You can likely go down to your local MVA and watch the test. We did that in Gaithersburg and found it very useful. It was a series of backing up/pulling in/making turns. Staff gave instructions before every new thing. Driver can ask questions.

My knowledge is probably 6 months out of date but yes, they have them do the test in a parking lot. It involves pulling forward into a parking spot, backing into a parking spot and doing an odd three point turn.
If the car touches a pylon at any point you fail the test so it’s probably worth some practice (you could be a good driver and fail the test or be a bad driver and pass the test).
There are some videos on youtube although I think they also say taping the test can result in failure.

Who has any very recent knowledge about what’s on the Maryland state in person drivers test? I have heard that they still aren’t getting inside the car with the driver? But are just giving them things to do on a closed road course? While standing outside and telling kids what to do… Is this correct?
