OP, I was a SABM when my kids were little but my DH worked long hours and I needed a regular break. A wonderful woman babysat my kids once a week, and wound babysit up to 4 kids or so at a time on a rotating scheduke. It wasn’t a daycare, but regular babysitting for me and small income for her and saved my life. Maybe something like that?

OP here. So like a Mom's day out program? I would worry about attachment issues. It's hard for the kids to get used to you if they only see you once a week. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Umbrella Insurance may help with liability concerns.

Just start putting the word out that you want to earn some extra cash and are available for babysitting before and after school and would consider infants (or whatever age you want).

Op here. Would it be okay to advertise on Care.com and Sittercity for something like this? Since most people go there to find a nanny who comes to them, I'm not sure how I would advertise.

OP here. I am not 100 percent sure if I would need a fence. In some states, you only need one if there's a pool or body of water close by. A few years ago, I took care of a toddler at my house. It worked out wonderfully. I was thinking now that we own a home, I could open up my own business. However, the pay to work at a preschool is awful. I have considered this, but my income would be wiped out with my son's preschool tuition. We would need to buy another car and pay for after-care for my 5-year-old. Maybe I need to accept that now isn't the right time to work. I'll wait until my children are older. It's just so sad, though, because I am passionate about early childhood education. My kids would benefit from being around other children, and having a job that pays me in money would be great! I have worked in a preschool, and I always felt like I lacked enough one-on-one time.

It might not be attractive to everyone OP, but you only need to find a few clients. Give it a try.

Not for me. I prefer the licensed, professionally-run ones where there is a provider and assistant and no other adults in a SFH.

That is going to restrict you severely. Sorry but I would not put my child in a daycare with no fence around the play area, no matter how well I trust the provider. And I would not go with an unlicensed daycare.

As long as she only had 1-2 kids, I would be fine with this. Plenty of people live in townhouses without a fence. It would be more like a nanny share.

Sahm here. Former nanny. Montessori trained. I've applied for nanny positions where I bring my child, but the pay is laughable. $10 or less an hour. A lot of times, it's been $6. Anyway, I am moving on from that. I have an associate's degree in behavioral science and 2 Montessori certifications. My spouse brings in a high income. I initially thought I could have an in-home preschool instead all an all-day program, but a lot of people gravitate towards in-home when they have babies. It would be hard to do Montessori preschool activities while taking care of a young baby. I guess I have to figure out which ages I want to target. Right now, I have a 23-month-old. My townhouse is beautiful. I decorate it nicely. No pets. We have a walkout rec room with access to a play structure I set up.
A potential negative is that my husband works from home two days a week. He's a cancer researcher. In-home daycare is more personal, so I am giving you these details. We only have one car, so DH will have it when he's working the other days. I mentioned this because of emergencies. I wouldn't be making field trips. I feel comfortable installing a camera so parents can see their children from an app. I'm not sure about including food. We eat healthily. Not a lot of sugary or processed food. Let me know what you think and what you look for. I know I wouldn't make as much money with a small ratio, but I am okay with that. I would have 1-2 clients, and that's in addition to my two children. My oldest son is in kinder until 3. He takes the bus home.
