This is what the creator Danny Strong said about it:

“I think the stuff that we do in the show [with Richard Sackler], I think there’s a real truth to it…wanting to not be perceived as a dilettante, wanting to succeed on his own in a grand way, being one of the only people in the family that’s actually working…. So what’s that like when you’re working your ass off and you’ve got all these family members that are getting paid for your work, and all they’re doing is constantly asking for more money? That’s got to be frustrating.”

Also, sidenote, how about Purdue Pharma's legal team sending a letter to the actor who portrays Richard Sackler?!

As someone who just had surgery - I’m awful glad it is available and equally cautious about my usage but man does it work.

I’ve seen episode 1, and thought it was very good. But sensing the tragedy that’s likely to unfold, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to continue.

Yes. I stopped watching in the middle of episode 4

Would this show be difficult to watch for someone who struggles with addiction or has family or loved ones who are addicted?

It’s hard to watch and yet I can’t wait for the next episode. Michael Keaton is so good. I forgot how much I enjoy him and hadn’t seen him in anything in a while. I was surprised he chose to do this and then saw he exec produced. Good for him.

Loved the first episode!

I absolutely love all things opioid epidemic. Very excited for the rest of the series. I really enjoyed the book Dreamland by Sam Quinones which does a deep dive as well with lots of personal stories.

Michael Keaton is also one of my faves.

Watched episode 1 during lunch today.
