I recently moved from my dream house in one of the areas you mention because flight paths changed and the noise became unbearable. There were cracks in my ceilings from the way my house would shake multiple times an hour, 14-20 hours a day. It was miserable.
We looked all over with idea that a new house could not be under a flight path. There are many areas of DC proper that this is the case, but if you want to be outside the city the only place close in that I found was Chevy Chase (although there is some occasional air traffic - albeit not directly overhead - and there are a ton of helicopters).
Are helicopters flying every minute? It's what planes do, it's so so disturbing, I used to live in huge cities with loads of noise and by the highway, but this is arguably the worst. And there are multi million dollar homes, tons of them in this new flight path and they are ok with it?
