What’s extra-baffling about this guy (besides the obvious) is that he gets back into the right LANE, instead of simply staying on the shoulder. Like, if you’re going to go backward illegally, at least do it in the most semi-quasi-sorta-safe-esque-ish way possible.

I saw someone do this on GW Parkway, going northbound and for the Spout Run exit.

Naturally, they had Maryland plates.

It's mind boggling the sh!t people do. I don't care how annoying it is to miss your exit, don't do this sh!t, ever.

Also it’s ok to leave the highway to check gps. Please don’t pull off halfway to do this. Take an exit, find a safer spot to check - with car parked.

Witnessed the same on the GW Parkway, except in that case it was a man. I came very close to hitting him at 50mph.

I have seen this multiple times. How do people not think they will get in an accident???

I am always flabergasted by people willing to take huge risks instead of missing accidents. Baffling.

A good reminder OP, agree! Sure there are exceptions, like PP pointed out, but really you are typically talking about 5-8 minutes of looping back around--not worth an accident or your safety (or that of others).

I agree with you in theory, of course. I do understand why people unfamiliar with driving in and around DC panic and do crazy maneuvers to make the exit, though. If you miss your exit on the GW Parkway near the Memorial Bridge, for example, you don't get a chance to turn around for quite some time. Driving on the Rock Creek Parkway can be similarly fraught. I don't know how you all navigated the tangled up roads by the Kennedy Center or the Memorial Drive/GW Parkway zig-zags without GPS.

Those of you who disrupt the flow or pull some dangerous maneuver last minute… I don’t know who the hell gave you a license, but don’t be stupid - a good driver sometimes misses their turn. A bad driver never misses their turn.
