Agree with those asking how often you plan to use the third row and how old the kids are that will use it. Once our kids got bigger and we used the third row often, we went with a full sized SUV.

It depends on how often you’ll use the third row. My mom takes the kids once a week and complains about how hard it is to get one of them in the third row.

I’m the PP who hasn’t bought yet, but I thought the Highlander did not handle well at all. You may be right that it’s more reliable, I’m not sure, but comfort and handling I thought the Ascent was better.

It’s Japanese engineering. It’s like saying Toyotas are American made. Sure, some models are made in America. The engineers are in Japan. Americans just put them together.

If you need to put car seats or boosters in the back text them out first. So many 3rd rows position the buckle so it’s under the seat and impossible for kids to be bucked in.

These are the two we are considering as well. We are only considering the narrower options (as these are) to fit though our garage opening. After test driving, my preference was the Ascent. However I do have some concerns about the CVT in the Ascent, as well as the lawsuits going on right now about the EyeSight safety features not working properly.

We haven't purchased anything and at this point will probably wait until next spring or summer to see if prices get better and see if we have any more clarity of choice.

Its a hard segment to be in! (We are coming from our second minivan, and I would simply just get another one except all of the new ones are too wide for my garage door.)

We love our Ford Expedition - tons of room.

What do you need the third row for? If it's the occasional kid, MDX. If it's a teenager then none of the above
