Why? It's a time in their lives when they can experiment in ways they won't be allowed to later in life.

My kid has had blue hair, purple hair, and varying shades in between. He's had fun with it, and now seems to be growing out of the "color my hair" stage. No harm done. And I could always spot him on the soccer field...the kid with the yellow cleats and blue glasses and purple hair.

Putting nasty chemicals on their head so they can alter their appearance and look like a deranged grownup. Let kids be kids.

I am still surprised every time I see this kind of vehement opinion about things other people do that have zero impact on their life. I am reading enough DCUM that I’m getting used to people not minding their own business, though.

OP have your kid choose a dark purple because it will fade into a nice light purple before it needs to be dyed again.

Oh heavens, you sound like Gollum. Yes, I let him alter his appearance for a couple of years -- and thus I let him be a kid.

Target and Michael's both carry hair chalk. Start there. It's temporary.

Sun in or lemon juice to lighten it up a bit, then Manic Panic.

We went to the salon, had part of her hair bleached, and then died. DD has dark hair so this was the only way to do it. The damage sucks but hey, it’s just hair and it grows back. We do at home Olaplex treatments.

It is fun because the dye will fade and you don’t have to go back to the salon to re-do the color. You can get really inexpensive dye on Amazon and just do it yourself and experiment with colors.

If you go in, be sure to take in inspiration pictures that have both the right color and where you want the color to be. If you say “just the tips” that can mean so many different things.

I use Arctic Fox vegan hair dye on DD. It washes out a bit with each wash. She has dark blonde hair, and I’d say hers lasted about 3 weeks. For best results, put a shower cap on under heat while it’s processing.

Don't do it. If it has to be done with your help, don't do it. If your DD was old enough to arrange this herself, that would be different.

Go to a professional salon to do this. I actually get purple lowlights in my ashy brown hair and it looks great because it doesn't pull red, but I could never do this myself.

DD wants a part of her front hair purple. She has medium brown hair, does anyone know how to do this without damaging her hair?
