I think they didn't call a plastic surgeon because she didn't need stitches and she has Medicare so I doubt they would pay for one.

OP is this you? If so, just call Medicare. (Medicaid?) to ask if they’ll cover a plastic surgeon. But surely they’ll cover a consultation with a dermatologist. The dermatologist can determine whether a plastic surgeon is needed.

I'm sure plastic surgeon would accept $200 or $300 cash for a consultation for scar prevention for a child in emergency situation.

Also glue isn't recommended for mucous membranes including lips. Missed that in your first message.

I was the first PP. I assume you mean Medicaid also. If not a plastic surgeon then definitely a dermatologist. You don't mention where the cuts are but there are certain parts of the face where glue isn't recommended like foreheads and hairlines (like eyebrows).

Take her to derm and plastic surgeon now for scar prevention. I'm so, so sorry OP. I had a sorority sister who lived thru this. She had some scarring, but nothing large and she was very attractive.

Yes. Thank you; I’ll tell DD to call. She doesn’t live with me but has her card.

It sounds like what you're doing now is good, but "kids are into The Ordinary" is not even an answer to your actual question. Those teens aren't trying to treat scars, they're trying to fight acne or get a rosy glow.

In your place I would set up a consult with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon and get their recommendations now while she's healing, not randoms from coworkers or the internet. If there's something that helps with scarring the doctor will know.

This. You don't need general skincare advice, and most products aren't formulated for this purpose and might even be harmful. You want to talk to a dermatologist, because you need medical advice.

PLEASE do not use "potions" from The Ordinary or any other "internet-recommended" company. NONE of that stuff is meant to be used on someone who just has been in a bad accident and it could result in infection, worse scarring, or other complications.

You need to consult with a doctor. Lots of moisture, stay out of the sun, but talk to a derm about how to minimize scarring and help the skin heal properly. Don't take random advice from internet strangers on this.

Last week she was in a bad car accident involving a tree. A lot of glass cut her face, and the ER used medical glue, not stiches. She is healing, and I promised her if she doesn't heal I will get her a consult with a plastic surgeon, but so far here is what we are doing:

- more medical glue for the cut at the corner where her lips meet (it falls off)
- she knows to stay out of the sun and not cover up the cuts with makeup until they've healed
- she has Bio Oil for when the cut is closed and scarring

Is there anything else I can get her? A coworker just told me teens are into The Ordinary but I don't know what any of those potions do exactly.
