Pointless to wonder. Covid can be asymptotic and absences may not be related to illness.

I'm quite surprised by how conservative this thread is. Car rates are going down, outdoor small gatherings unmasked have been considered safe for a long time now, and kids are coming down with colds but not covid left and right. Obviously get your kid tested and not great to send a kid with a cold to a party, but really, I don't think anything grossly negligent happened here.

Having a party is a borderline ok activity that will embolden folks that don’t want to take precautions. Of course some came without masks and with colds.

OP in the subject you're saying that there was a sick kid at the party.
In your actual post, you're making some leaps in judgment that infer the child was sick based on them not being at school.
I'm not saying you're wrong, btw. But you're definitely coming to a conclusion that may not be based in reality at all.

You run the risk of being a covid spreading event if you have a party. Guests take the risk by attending. This is the world that we live in.
You should have handed the kids brand new disposable masks.
I hosted 3 outdoor masked parties. I was very clear about masks but I also had masks, wipes and sanitizer at the entrance of our backyard.
I would get your kid tested. No need to say anything to anyone if your kid doesn’t have covid and the supposed sick guest doesn’t contact you that he has covid.
You should have handed the kids brand new disposable masks.

Colds have been prevalent in my house. Multiple negative Covid tests.
That said, I feel no qualms at all with handing a mask less kid one of our disposable kid masks if they come without one. “Here you go! Everyone is doing masks for this party. 😊)

Eh colds and allergies are going around right now. Get tested, when it comes back negative you can relax. We keep a stack of the Binax tests at home for situations like this.

1) text or email parents the morning of the party and say “if your child has ANY symptoms of illness in the past 48 hours, please keep them home”
And
2) we will require masks, if you don’t have any, we will be sure to have disposable ones at the party and if your child refuses to wear one, he/she will be sent home.
