My son turned 7 last week and we had a small, outdoor birthday party for him. Some friends from his class came. We had asked that everyone wear masks, but a couple of kids were dropped off without one. I figured it was outdoors and probably okay. I did text both moms of the boys who wore masks to let them know and they said it should be fine.
Yesterday night, my son commented that Larlo wasn't in school yesterday and hadn't been on Friday, but that he came to our party on Saturday. A little strange, and had me a little concerned during a pandemic but I hoped it wasn't for being sick.
Today, my son was sent home feeling tired and has a headache. IF this is covid, the exposure may have happened before the party so I will notify everyone. But, I can't help but wonder if the maskless Larlo, who was out on Friday and Monday should not have come over Saturday.
I’m not against outdoor parties, but you knew it held risk, right?
For the rest of us going forward, I would:
1) text or email parents the morning of the party and say “if your child has ANY symptoms of illness in the past 48 hours, please keep them home”
And
2) we will require masks, if you don’t have any, we will be sure to have disposable ones at the party and if your child refuses to wear one, he/she will be sent home.
Thanks for understanding!
