The program is good if what you are looking for is a supplement to soccer - in ASA futsal ID, it is played and coached is like smaller sided soccer on a hard indoor court, with pretty decent soccer players as your teammates. If you are interested in futsal for futsal's sake, it is probably not for you. I cannot see most of the futsal ID teams holding up well in futsal against some of the higher-level pure futsal teams that are more fustal specialized. But most people don't care about that. Whether futsal ID is right for you depends on what you are looking for.


Not true on the boys side. They are competing well against futsal academies

You’ll also want to check on the price if that is a concern. It adds up quickly when they start adding extras to the schedule.

It's really competitive to get a spot with futsal ID. My son has been offered one in some years, not in others. It depends on the level of interest among higher level team players, plus outside high level team players from Bethesda etc. that they would like to use futsal ID to recruit for soccer.

My DD does the ID program. It has also helped tremendously on the soccer field with her 1v1 moves and dribbling in tight spaces.

It's a great, fast moving sport. My son loves it, and is better at it than soccer. He's tiny, and futsal doesn't involve shouldering (though it is physical).

Futsal helps with first touch, decision making, 1v1, etc. ASA has it's tryouts this week if you are looking for a higher level, more competitive experience.

OP, Futsal can be a lot of fun. As the PP indicated, Futsal helps with first touch and ball control/dribbling. The ball is heavier and doesn’t bounce as much as a regular soccer ball. Since it’s played in a much smaller indoor court than an outdoor soccer field, small space ball movement and passing is key.

Think of it as soccer meets basketball. Played indoors on a hard surface with slightly heavier ball to improve tight space technical skills and one touch quick passes. It is a different game - faster, fewer long balls, lots more goals, smaller sides. Comes from Brazil. Go to the league where your kid has friends. Otherwise it’s just an ‘up’ for Bethesda soccer club and large impersonal clubs like this. Enjoy!

Completely new to Futsal. What is it? Which leagues are in DC or close in? Time commitment? Etc. My 10 year old wants to play and I am really in the dark on this one. Thanks!
