I've known people with both. It doesn't matter.

No, it really doesn't.

Emilia is my favorite character in Shakespeare's Othello, and my students usually like her, too. She's complex and wise, cynical and feminist, flawed but knows herself by the end of the play.

I considered it for our daughter. And no, I wasn't trying to "spell Amelia differently."

Amelia

Emilia reminds me of Night at the Roxbury (I’m sure I’m the odd man on this) EMILOOOO!

Amelia

Please don’t call her Millie.

Are you Persian/Iranian by chance, OP? Emilia is a Persian name.

I like Amelia a million times more than Emilia.

No question: Amelia!

Emil is awful. Emilia is worse.

No. Both pronounced the same. Like Vivian and Vivienne. Same pronunciations but with different spellings.

I like Emilia better.

They are both good! If you will use Emmy, go with Emilia. But I could also see using Amelia for the Amelia Earhart connection, and what a great hero for a little girl!

I always feel like the tiebreak goes to the person giving birth, especially if you both like both names and are just torn between them. But that's just me.

We are thinking of naming our daughter Amelia. I like it spelled that way but my husband likes it spelled Emilia. Nicknames will likely be Emmy or Millie.
