Individual or Single Classroom COVID Case

With one confirmed case of COVID in a classroom, the classroom will transition to full-time distance learning for up to 14 days from the date of onset. APS will initiate the contact tracing process during this time. School staff, students and additional staff, such as transportation staff and related services providers, that are identified by APS/Qualtrics will be transitioned to distance learning or teleworking. These individuals will receive notification from APS regarding the transition to virtual. The staff and families of students in that classroom will also be notified by APS that their student was in close contact with a suspected or positive COVID-19 case. Upon the conclusion of contact tracing, and cleaning and disinfecting have been performed, students and staff will be notified by APS as to when they will return to in-person learning.

My kids class is in the middle of being shut down for two weeks. Ignore what everyone else is saying about about returning after testing.

Can you provide the link for this? Everything I see online says that unvaxxed close contacts are quarantined for 14 days regardless of testing.

When an exposure happens in elementary school it does seem to impact a ton of kids, in a few cases an entire classroom. But as you can see in the dashboard cases have actually been very low compared to states where vax rates and community spread are far higher. Don't get me wrong, my fingers are crossed every day that we don't get a quarantine notice since my kids are still too young to be vaccinated, but it hasn't been a complete cluster.

If APS moved to a test to stay model, quarantine rates would go down even more.

Isn't there a shortage of the testing kits right now? Where would APS get enough testing supplies and staff to support testing sites at every school? Isn't that what a test to stay model would require?

Unvaxxed close contacts have to quarantine for a period of time. they can return on day 8 if they have a negative PCR test result taken between days 5-7. Close contact is narrowly defined as less than 3 ft if masks are worn, if no masks (outside at recess or during lunch) it is w/i 6ft.

Not sure -- I only have one and she's vaxxed. I think they have to quarantine for a few days and show a negative test to return to the classroom. Lots of discussion on AEM about this a week or so ago.

They only have to quarantine if they are actually sick. Otherwise fine to go back if just a close contact with no symptoms and vaxxed

Unvax close contact is a total cluster of APS’ making.

Case rates have been pretty low in APS, which is great! And very happy APS is not quarantining vaccinated students.

I have one in ES and one in MS. Neither vaccinated yet.

ES kid has had 2 all-school notices. MS kid has had 1 all-school notice. Neither kid affected.

So far it's been a non-issue for our family. Nobody has missed a day of school.

We are doing APS VL this year (which is its own pain) and are thinking of venturing back to regular school once our kids are vaccinated. But we are trying to get a feel of how often people are getting exposure notices or actually having to quarantine with their unvaccinated and vaccinated kids?
