I’ve never done this and I’ve been with dh for 20 years.

Reminds me of one of the first episodes of the Marvelous Mrs Maisel where she wakes up early to “put on her face” before her husband wakes up.

Are you only doing it for your husband? Or is it a self care prep to be with adults kind of a thing? What if you have a crappy day do you still feel the need to do it?

OP here I’m 32 so I don’t really think it’s generational. If I was going out to run errands and not in a hurry or meeting with another adult I’d probably get ready in the same way. If I was feeling really sick I wouldn’t do it and there are of course times when I don’t have the time and I don’t give it any thought. The whole “freshening up” process probably takes 2 min so it’s not that involved.

I'm in my 70's married a very long time and never did this. My mother and MIL did, so I guess that dates the custom.

Still, you do what makes you happy.

Weird
Are you otherwise insecure?

I think it’s weird. Your DH doesn’t freshen up for you.

Abnormal in the sense that I doubt many women under 50 do something like this. But not abnormal in the sense that it's bad or wrong or unfeminist or anything. Just not what most people do.

I think it's sweet, OP! As long as this is something you do because you want to and not because you feel like your DH requires it, why not?
I've been married 20 years and I sometimes do this if I'm home before DH. Keep it hot, OP!

I do this for my boyfriend, also with no pressure from him and not sure if he notices, but I also think it’s kind of odd and it makes me wonder about my self-esteem that I seem to be looking for validation.

This was normal in the 50s and totally weird now. I mean I think it’s great that you do it, very sweet that you are trying to look nice for your DH, but I am also a SAHM and never in a million years would it occur to me to freshen up my makeup for when DH walks in the door! He is usually met with me at my most frazzled and the kids and the house a wreck. If we were going out somewhere, I would definitely try to look nice, but with babies and toddlers and school kids and activities…freshening up is never going to happen.

I do not do this. I don’t think it’s strange. It’s a little traditional, but so what. Women all over the world do stuff like this.

Just use Saran Wrap and meet him with a martini.

I’m a sahm. I obviously get ready in the morning (simple hair, light makeup, casual clothes) but I also do a little refresh before DH comes home. Usually this is just brushing hair, touching up makeup and maybe changing into something a little more comfortable but more revealing than my daytime outfit (short shorts, cropped tank, low cut v neck etc). I do not feel any pressure or expectations from DH regarding any of this.

Anyway, I was talking to a few friends and it was brought up that I did this. They pressed for details and thought the whole thing was totally weird and silly, especially considering that DH sees me au natural at night and in the morning. I didn’t think this was a strange thing to do but my friends completely roasted me. What do you think dcum? Do you do this? Is this strange?
