+1 everything will low mileage is super expensive. I bought a 2007 honda civic with 178K at the end of 2020. It was from a friend and I paid 2K. I've thought about trading up for something with lower mileage but I"m not seeing any deals.

Can he find an old AWD Subaru? Those things last forever.

This is my plan for my daughter as soon as she gets her permit. Price these out a few months ago and you could definitely get one for under 10 grand.

you will have a hard time finding something decent right now - the same reason you were able to get a good deal selling your DH's car will work against you buying. toyota or honda, 2008 and up, 100k and down, if you can find one

If you come across a Scion, any model, they were the budget division of Toyota. We have 2 still running 15+ years later.

What about in a place like Boston with significant snow? My buddy is a grad student in Boston and wants a car for local errands and road trips around the Northeast (skiing, driving to ME/NH/VT on the weekends for hiking, drive to Montreal, Cape Cod, etc.)

Honda Civic 2008-2010 ex under 100k miles.

I just sold my 08 Civic EX that had 80k miles for 7k.

Very nice easy to get a relatively low mileage Civic ex sedan that’s been babied/garaged for under 10k that still drives tight.

It totally depends on if you need AWD. if yes, the CRV or rav 4. If not then smaller Toyota or Honda.

My husband lost his job over the summer so we downsized to one car. We did well selling his car- sold it for more than we bought it for 2 years ago! We are left with a 2017 highlander that we plan to keep for a long time. We’ve done ok on one car but it’s looking like with job situations for both of us we will need a second car. We don’t live in DC area anymore.
We have about 8-10k to spend (don’t want to get a loan). What would you buy?
