I've put two kids through daycare. They don't do arts and crafts or anything like that until they are about 2.5. They don't play *with* kids until they are probably closer to 3...they play alongside kids. Daycare at the earlier age is somewhere safe to keep your child, and a good one will help them hit developmental milestones like walking and talking through play and reading books to them. You can do things like Music Together and library time, and Moms groups to get socialization (for you and baby).

Former infant teacher here we did arts and crafts with the babies.

My DC went to Children's Weekday Program starting at 17 months (Parent's Day Out) and it was such a great program. DC also went to Early Years and it was also a great program (this was in 2018). My DC had a great experience at both schools, I never had any issue.

Only do it if you need the break. No actual develomental reason to do it and they will get more sick and bring stuff home. Wait until 2.5.

It's hard to find part time childcare under 2. Maybe an in home place? Or look to hire a sitter a few times a week.

I have some ideas for where I might want to apply when he turns two... but I would be interested in any feedback on Early Years preschool or if anyone has found a good part time preschool in the meantime.

Your options for part time care increase greatly once child is either 2.5 or potty-trained.
