I spray bug repellant on my baseball cap before I put it on. Works pretty well keeping them off my face.

McLean harvests those bugs to keep obnoxious parents away.

It's been a bad year for them everywhere. Off Deep Woods and a hat help keep them away.

OP here. I've tried bug spray (Off Family Care brand) and those little citronella bracelets to no avail. Not a huge drinker so the intoxication method won't work. If others have had success with alternative methods, please share!

I think they could be midges? I went for a run around sunset last night and they were swarming my whole culdesac. I had to close my eyes and just barrel through lol!

YMMV but I've heard showing up drunk or intoxicated enough to put off a slight odor in the air keeps them away. Ive never tried that nor would I recommend it.

I live in Fairfax and see them too. I've seen horse flies too.

No advise but I feel your pain.

We live in McLean and it seems as though at every soccer field (Longfellow, Spring Hill, St. Luke, etc.) there are tons of little flying gnats *all the time*. What are these?? Anyone have success avoiding them? The kids don't seem to mind them but they drive me crazy during long practices and games! Any advice welcome. (Originally posted this is the sports forum but figure soccer parents would know best!)
