Why?

DD (11) has been bugging me about it, because she says that all her friends that don't have personal emails or phones do have Discord, and that's how they stay connected. She said something about having a private server(???), so it'll just be a small group of invited kids, and not randos on the internet. Haven't decided one way or the other, but might take the PP's tack, and just go with a parent account that is monitored.

For the last few years it's been how ds and friends have communicated. Now at college he set us up as a family channel and it's all we use. It's a great tool. Like all social media you have to decide for yourself and your teen. All I've seen ds use it as is a means to chat with a certain group of friends, easier than texting. We have a general page, a pictures page etc.

Started around 10 but uses parent's account and its monitored. It concerns us as the kids don't behave very well on there (they don't know we monitor it but pretty shocking language for 11-13 year olds). We don't restrict it but make it clear to our kids they aren't talking like that and they get cut off if they do.

My 12 year old uses it to chat with friends.

DS is 12 and has been using it for several months. He uses it to talk to friends while gaming. Most of his calls are facetime but he still prefers discord with some friends. Perhaps ones without phones.

So it’s all gaming? DD thought there were all different kinds of discussion groups, on a variety of topics. She’s not at all into gaming.

I think my son started around 11 or 12. I cut if off for a while because I was worried about what he was getting up to on it, but he's been back on for a few years. (He's almost 15 now.) It's the primary mode of communication between his and his friends. I check his chats occasionally and mainly they're just discussing video games.

Yes. Probably since he was 14ish. He is 20 now. Still using it as far as I know. It wasn’t a thing when my older kids were still at home.

My DS has been on Discord since he was 12. 14 now. It’s mainly chatting for gamers. Not much chance to get on it since school started.

Almost 15 year old DD wants to try it but I know nothing about it.
