They eat leftovers for a pre-practice snack, but I also cook dinner for the same night for the rest of us, and usually have lots of leftovers. Repeat.

I make the crazy nights the Costco Prepared Meal night. I just buy one or two a week - the meatloaf is a big hit or the street tacos - and we have that. Or, breakfast for dinner. Of, I buy a bunch of sub fixings - meat, cheese, whole wheat sub rolls, etc - and we have those. Quick and easy and filling.

Then why bother? Just wait until the kid is a little older to sign up

Welcome to the craziness but 6pm is a good time. Some practices start earlier and run later. You get used to quick meals.

If your child plays sports or you have more than one kid playing sports, this will become many weeknights.

Flex so one parent can get home earlier

OR

Feed a snack on the way to practice and make a quick dinner when you get home.

You're going to develop some very speedy cooking skills or order a lot of takeout.

I would give a hearty snack in the car or at home before practice, then dinner afterward. Honestly, we make this night our "takeout" night -- get pizza or something on the way back from practice.

Make practice night a leftover night. Cook double the night before, or on the weekend.

6pm practice night is crockpot dinner night. And there are so many crockpot options.

Yes it’s hugely annoying and doesn’t end. Helps that we are WFH now.

I have two kids in upper elementary. Older kid plays two sports--one has two practices and two games per week and the other is two practices per week at this point. Younger kid plays one sport but is on two teams so between the two teams, there are 3 practices and 3 games per week. During the Fall and Spring, we probably have a nice, home-cooked dinner twice a week. The other days it is takeout or frozen pizza or a frozen lasagna or something. One day a week at 6pm sounds heavenly to me.

What time do you get home? Can you prepare an extra meal on another night to just heat and serve on T-ball night? Or be okay with takeout once a week? Just be prepared--if he likes baseball, it will quickly become 4-5 days a week and eventually may well be 7 days a week so it is good to start easing into this now.

6 pm is not a bad practice time at all!

+1 Yes, because the coaches probably work 9-5 as well.

There was just a thread about this the other day with lots of great suggestions! Maybe try to search for it? Can’t recall the thread title, sorry…

I can't believe this is already a thing but my 4 year old wanted to try t-ball and the practices are once a week at 6 pm.

I work FT and can't get dinner ready on the table at 5.

For those in similar situations, how do you handle food with something like this?
