I've always thought it would be fun to use for crafting. It would be a feature for me. I love bamboo.

Wow, strong responses on both sides! Gives me a lot to think about… sounds like it depends on the specific type of bamboo. I’ll try to investigate further! Thanks everyone for sharing!

This would be a stupid reason not to buy a house that otherwise checks the boxes you need.

My neighbors have rhizome spreading bamboo all across their backyard up against a fence and it's barely moved in the four years I've been here, and they rarely touch it. It's not that bad.

I bought a property that had some bamboo. I cleared it initially in about half a day. At this point I spend a few hours per year to maintain and eliminate any new growth in the spring. My neighbor had a landscaping crew come in and they got rid of it in a day and in has not come back.
Some bamboo can be pretty invasive but my bamboo and I are at peace.
If you clear it, use an ax. Hit it right at the base.

Nope nope nope nope nope. Even bamboo 2-3 houses away would make me think twice.

We have bamboo and it’s honestly a beautiful feature in our backyard. Great privacy too.

Not all bamboo spreads rapidly. My parent's yard had a patch of very slow-spreading bamboo that was there when they purchased the house and was still there in the same space 40+ years later, with barely any spread. Seriously. It was lovely.

It can be dug out, but it's a major deal. If it's in your neighbor's yard, too, you'll need a below grade barrier after you dig yours out.

No, I didn't buy a house for that reason. You can never get rid of it and it grows fast.

How big of a deal is it really? If I pay to have it professionally removed, am I mostly done with the issue? Or, is it professional removal plus lots of ongoing maintenance? The lot is small and I can see neighbors on both sides who have bamboo in the yard.
