Lol, according to who? Volvo is like a nicer Subaru. They are like the Birkenstock and Crocs of the automotive world, respectively.

In your expert car enthusiast opinion what car does reflect status (under 70k).

If you want people with money (who also know cars) to think you have money, too - drive a Volvo.

Because they know how much it costs to keep those POS’s running.

Since 2018 they made their cars flashier so that is what I can assume you may be referring to. But they are not as flashy as a Mercedes or high end BMW. Certainly my 2016 S60 was not a head turner but it sure was a nice car to own. I bought it because it was “under the radar.”

Quite a while ago. In the late ‘70s, it was the station wagon of choice for preppy families dropping their offspring off at school. This was when they were a Swedish company, before Ford got involved. I’m not clear that they’re Still a status car, but that wasn’t the OP’s question.

Original Volvo was always a status symbol in America for upwardly mobile middle class families. It was a company constantly innovating with design and safety. The brand took a nosedive when Ford took over and made Volvo about as innovative as a Taurus. Geely buying it was the best thing that could have happened, and for the past decade, Volvo has once again regained its footing as a smart choice for people with money.

I don't know if it's a status car. It's a semi-luxury nice family car that's safe and more "under the radar" than a mercedes. Plus, I associate Mercedes's with people in their 50s+.

Yes, it also doesn't have very flashy lines and usually comes in subdued colors.

That’s what I was going to say too.

Volvo is a nice car, but "classier than a Mercedes"? I wouldn’t describe it that way.

When and how is the Volvo a status car? Somehow it’s supposed to be classier than a Mercedes?
