I do this when I need multiple items from the same aisle but different sections. It’s more efficient IME.

"See" is a multiple meaning word, and in this case, it means "notice." People ahead of their cart aren't cognizant of what's happening five feet behind them. When you push the cart, you sense the shoppers nearby who are shopping the same shelves as you.

THat's nothing OP, and I actually see nothing wrong with it. Not sure why you're equating LuluLemon wearing women with this behavior. You seem annoyed at anyone who's wearing any kind of athleisure.

Also, the worst shopping cart crime I see is people who are so exhausted with their lives that they drape their whole upper body over the top of the cart. I know you all know what I'm talking about.

Is this a COVID thing? They don't want to touch the handle?

Yup! I do this often to evade / blocks the kind of folks who seem to think the line will move faster if they stand as close to others as possible. It doesn't actually take up more though.

I used to work in a grocery store. I mainly saw this when there was a parent with a kid(s) in a stroller and a shopping cart for the groceries--they would push the stroller in front of them with one hand, and pull the shopping cart behind them with the other.

Maybe these women you see doing that, are used to shopping with their kid in the stroller like that, and have just adopted the habbit of pulling the cart instead.

I pull mine sometimes. It doesn’t take up any more space than if I were pushing. It’s sometimes easier to control. The cart doesn’t magically change shape when you pull instead of push.

I am having trouble visualizing how this takes up an entire aisle. Please diagram.

What is the deal with the new shopping technique? Every grocery store I go to has a woman (always in Lululemon or other athleisure wear) dragging her cart by the corner of the basket instead of using the push handles. This effectively takes up the entire lane/hall/corridor and no one else can pass. I dont get it.. it's not easier.
