Yes but kids usually don’t ask for the video when they were lying. In middle school there’s tons of unprovoked fights.

I’ve literally watched kids in my class do something then say to go get the video tape to prove they didn’t. I’m not saying there aren’t unprovoked fights, but the parents who are like “I need the video to prove I’m right because my kid said so…” are just a bit extra.

In my experience as a parent, the aggression could have been the result of some sort of competition between the two other boys.

I agree that if the two boys started punching randomly, then they need help. But I’ve definitely seen a pattern of where children who are aggressive, for whatever reason, are not given the help they may need. DCPS deals with such situations by blaming both aggressor and the target. That doesn’t help anyone.

The main thing I wish Is known then is that violence/aggression would only get worse in middle school, and that it was having a terrible impact on my student’s mental health.

OP, pls be careful not to sign anything produced by the investigation before reading thoroughly. Be sure you agree with what they put on paper. Your child is the victim and you are his counsel. Protect him. Don’t feel you need to fix the problems of the system or other kids. Not your job.

OK, I have just rarely seen something like this happen out of the blue. It doesn't mean your kid started it--maybe there has been a pattern of your child being targeted. But usually words of some sort are exchanged, or it is referring back to a previous incident. Again, it is NEVER ok to hit someone. But be prepared that your kids may have been victimized before this, OR perhaps they are not telling you the 'whole' story of the role they played.

I am glad they are investigating. Using hands is never OK. With that being said, I hope you have a sense of what began this incident. If two kids started randomly punching another, they need help.

This is terrible. I assume you don’t want to share the school name, but it would be nice to know which schools to be wary of for this kind of thing.

You can call Advocates for Justice in Education. They take student discipline cases. You could also try the Office of the Student Advocate and if it is a charter you should start by filing a complaint with PCSB.

My child was punched at lunch time by two kids at school, and now my son my son is suspended. l requested a copy of the video cameras but they refuse to give it to me, but that is the only way, I can prove that he was sitting on the other side of the table while the kids were punching him
If the school doesn't do anything who should I contact?
