In the 2012 age group, Midwest United is ranked #1 in ecnl and currently earned a spot in the ecnl national playoffs
That team is something else. Actually been runner up in Super Y, gone far in futsal tourneys and even plays up 2011 in national USYS (If any wonder what it takes to have a top team -- this says a lot, IMO). Some call Midwest a feeder for Hawks. Yes, some of there players over the years have gone there, but that's based on Hawks reputation and was before Midwest really started gaining steam. Also, it's 2-3 hour drive between the 2 (Grand Rapids-Detroit), so quite a sacrifice to play for the Hawks. I'm sure most parents would rather see Midwest just become the big dog and the GR area is fast becoming a soccer mecca in MI with new infrastructure on the way (https://www.grandaction.org/current-projects/grand-rapids-soccer-stadium) and Midwest is part of the USL, btw. In the end, I bet Midwest would be happy to let Nationals and Hawks/Wolves battle for youth soccer in SE Michigan (although the Jags in GA also are big and there are several strong clubs in USYS) if it can be THE club for that side of the state.
