The FBI received thousands of tips and had limited resources for followup. As laypeople, we don’t have insight into the prosecutorial triage process. A few of the more promising leads were followed up and led to interviews and evidence gathering, but most were simply flagged as uncorroborated and left at that. Also, a caller’s mental health history has no bearing on whether the alleged incidents happened or not, in the same way that a woman’s sexual history has no bearing on whether or not she was raped.
