I voted Blue and am a legal immigrant. I will be cheering when each and every illegal is deported.
I'll cheer when the border is completely secured, our asylum protocols are reformed, and criminals here without legal status are deported. I have an open mind and open heart to accept those that are already here without legal status and are only here seeking a better life as long as the flow of undocumented people is completely stopped going forward.
Kind of unfair, isn’t it? If you came in yesterday, for no good reason, you get everything, but tomorrow is the cut off? How about instead, if you have been here for 10 years without any legal problems, or are married to a U.S. citizen for 5, or similar ? Not that any of this will happen…
Nothing in this is fair. The best we can do is prioritize stopping the bleeding by completely securing the border and reforming asylum protocols. Deportation on any large scale would be impractical, nearly impossible, and inhumane.
We had 8 million come in the last 4 years; shouldn’t be that hard to remove them.
You cannot remove them without due process, meaning: a removal hearing before an IJ, an appeal to the BIA, and then a petition for review before a federal court. Then you need to obtain travel documents (ie - their passport from their home country, or other permission to re-enter). Many countries don’t want their people back, especially criminals. It’s a ridiculously complicated process and only congress can meaningfully alter the process. Securing the border is far easier. Next would be to incentivize unlawful immigrants to leave in their own, such as restricting benefits.
