I don't care if anyone's father was a Marxist or a Black Panther or even if someone in government now has Marxist beliefs or connections to the Black Panther movement. Helen Keller was a socialist and a Wobbly, she even boycotted her own movie (not the Miracle Worker, some other movie I believe she was actually in) because of a strike. A lot of the OSS people in WWII were previous members of the American Communist Party (many of them ended up getting pushed out when it became the CIA, and Julia Child's own husband was investigated for connections to Communism). Far as I'm concerned, none of those things are inherent disqualifiers for public service. I'm more troubled about people with continuing allegiance to the Confederacy, since that really did involve starting a treasonous war. [/quote]
