Brandon’s transformation was sort of jarring. The Barefoot Church pastor becoming a biker guy overnight. Didn’t he step down from ANC before the divorce? I guess to do the non profit thing? Are any Hatmakers still a part of ANC? It appears that ANC is still around but it looks like they are down to one service and it appears like it’s a pretty tiny church now too. It looks like most of who’s actually going are the musicians and pastors. It would be interesting to know what the story is there.
Brandon did step away but I don’t know when. I think we’d pretty much stopped going when he did. He was “teaching” (they called preaching “teaching”, which was always sort of weird to me) about every other week. There were originally two other pastors, Tray and Matthew. Matthew led more than Tray. Tray is still involved and I think runs a lot of the financial and behind the scenes stuff. Matthew left a long time ago then another church joined ANC and John was a pastor, then about the time we quit going, Jason joined. By this time, Brandon was much less visible as was Jen. Jen would “teach” every so often as well. The same worship leader, Lamar, is still there, I believe. All were really good and likable folks as far as I knew. But, the bigger the Hatmakers got, the more they stepped back it seemed. I don’t blame them, just stating what I recall. This transition was over several years. It didn’t happen in 6 weeks or anything. They were at Jackie’s, a private school and dance studio in far south Austin. It was a quaint set up. At some point, they moved and got access to some performing arts center. Don’t know the details, as we’d stopped going before then. But I recall, they were expecting big things. I don’t know the status now but it is much different and I think a lot of players have changed from the original ANC.
